The Story
A Certified Texan
Having grown up in south Texas, it’s not hard to believe I was driving a tractor before I was driving a car. I spent summers on ranches bailing hay, fixing fences, and moving equipment. I didn’t realize that experience would help me later when I joined the Air Force. While deployed to Iraq as a security forces specialist, I was the lead driver for outside-the-wire patrols, behind the wheel of a 35,000-lb Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle (MRAP). So you can imagine, I know my away around big equipment!
How’d I end up in Virginia?
Well, like most Texans, I love my state and thought I’d be there forever. But fate had other plans when it led me to my wife Katie. When we were young Airmen in Wichita, Kansas, I knew when I popped the question that there’d be a pretty good chance that one day we might homestead in her native state of Virginia…and, now, here we are, within "spittin' distance" to her family and childhood home.
Why “Texan on a Tractor?”
Well, a crazy ice storm hit Central Virginia in Jan. 2022 bringing with it five inches of heavy, wet snow that snapped trees all across the region. The damage to our wooded 70 acres was unbelievable - a tree even fell on our newly-built house! We saw no way out from underneath the volume of work to clean up all the downed trees and limbs.
After a weekend of attempting manual cleanup, Katie and I looked at each other and said, "No more - we need a tractor!" After all, the Air Force taught us to “work smarter, not harder!” We soon realized how much work we could do around our homestead with various tractor implements and equipment. After using the tractor to help our family, friends, and neighbors, we realized we could help other local families with their small to medium projects too.

So, here we are, with our pack of dogs and cats just living that rural life and helping others to do the same.
